The Hawthorns

The Hawthorns is a well-established home at ROC Northwest and makes a big difference to our children’s lives. At the last Ofsted inspection in 2022 the home was judged, outstanding.

The Hawthorns, offers residential care for children aged 7 up to the age of 18 years old. Specially adapted to the needs of children with Social, Emotional and Behavioural difficulties. Our children are treated with the appropriate respect, as individuals in a person-centred way. We work in line with the PACE model and invest time into building positive, trusting and meaningful relationships with our children.

The Hawthorns is designed to integrate our children into the community, promoting positive social skills which will become necessary for an independent later life.

Children at The Hawthorns have their own personalised room and communal areas. This allows the children to practise their taught social skills, build lasting, supportive friendships in the home; we believe that this is essential as it shows the child the emotional reward of maintaining positive relationships.

Within the local area our children attend a range of recreational facilities including parks, local youth groups and sports facilities. In this time, they often work in grouped or paired activities to create lasting friendships and develop social skills and understanding. We encourage our children to engage with our neighbours and local community, ensuring they make a positive contribution and make progress as individuals. We host coffee mornings and attend local events to ensure the children are a part of our wider community and develop a sense of belonging.

At The Hawthorns, staff are invested in providing a safe, stable, caring and nurturing environment, bringing stability to our children’s lives. Our children are treated as individuals and given the appropriate respect as well as the resources to make their own decisions, with the support of staff if necessary. Staff go above and beyond for our children and this shows in the progress our children make and the relationships between staff and children.
